This month, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on our August Playlister of the Month, Pop Aesthetics by Stella Stéphani! With her passion for music, sharp eye for trends, and dedication to supporting artists, Stella has built a brand that resonates with both listeners and musicians alike.

From Influencer to Playlister

Stella first discovered the world of curation while working in partnership with a music label, supporting artists and exploring executive production. That behind-the-scenes experience opened the door to playlisting, and by the end of 2023 she had launched her own playlisting journey.

Reflecting on the start of her playlisting journey, Stella explains, “My curiosity to explore the creative world behind it is what inspired me to create my first playlist.”

Building Growth Through Influence & Branding

Stella has been intentional about growing her curation, blending her background as an influencer with a love for music. She promotes her playlists through social media while also investing in ads—an approach that’s helped her drive quality engagement and reach new listeners.

Branding has also been key. Leveraging her past experience working with brands and labels, Stella crafted a clear identity for her Pop Aesthetics profile. This cohesive look and feel ensures her playlists stand out and connect with the right audience.

Tips for Fellow Playlisters

For Stella, curation is more than just song selection—it’s about supporting artists and shaping meaningful music experiences. Here are a few of her top tips:

• Prioritize quality. Curation is directly tied to artists’ dreams and careers.
• Keep learning. Expand your intuitive knowledge, follow trends, and study music production basics.
• Respect the craft. Understand the genres, history, and details that matter to the audience.

“To succeed, it’s crucial to prioritize quality, expand intuitive knowledge, stay up-to-date with trends, and learn at least the basics of music production.” Stella explains, “All of this helps elevate curatorial and A&R actions to a professional level.”

Right now, Stella is particularly excited about Estella Dawn and Cali Tucker, both of whom she admires for their artistry, quality, and authenticity.

She adds, “Independent artists who carve a solid path with authenticity always capture my attention.”

For Stella, the most rewarding part of being a playlister is seeing the joy artists experience when their music reaches new listeners and achieves real results. Just as meaningful is the opportunity to discover incredible music and emerging talent from all around the world.
